Yes, yes and yes.
The Quebec-based ensemble Christine Tassan et les Imposteures have been interpreting the infectious energy of gypsy jazz and swing for the past 15 years. To create their latest show, inspired by the story of a chance encounter between Quebec singer-songwriter Félix Leclerc and Romani gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt in Paris’s Latin Quarter, the group asked themselves, “what if the two men had gone on to make music together?” What results is a string quartet drawing inspiration from one artist’s poetry and the other’s swing to weave a rich new musical universe that also includes songs by George Gershwin, Louis Prima and others interpreted through a Django-esque lens.
