A pair of Canadian legends play the Tipsy Muse, new works open at Gallery 78 and the UNB Arts Centre, and Silver Wave Film Festival launches. All this and more, this week in Fredericton.
Wednesday
Plain Site Theatre Festival Auditions. The Plain Site Theatre Festival, curated by Alex Rioux, in partnership with The Black Box Theatre and Solo Chicken Productions, is proud to return once again to the St. Thomas University campus to present new LGBTQIA2+-centered plays with the aim of fostering queer visibility in our arts scene and on our campus. The festival, which will be presented from March 17 – 19, 2022, is holding auditions for staged readings and full productions. We welcome all folks who identify as LGBTQIA2+ to audition. We are holding in-person auditions on November 3, but are also accepting video submissions to ensure accessibility. Silver Wave Film Festival runs Nov. 4-11. For more than two decades, Fredericton’s Silver Wave Film Festival has been curating a week of film screenings and awards to celebrate the wealth of filmmaking talent that exists here in the province. Morgan Davis at the Tipsy Muse Café. In a fabled career, that is now into it’s 5th decade, this award winning blues artist has committed his life to the genre that he has long since become a master of. Morgan Davis has jammed with some of the legends, and in turn, became one himself. Ask any blues fan, and Davis’ name comes with a lot of respect and credibility attached. 7 p.m.
Queen of the Andes (Film Screening) at the Playhouse. The highly-anticipated hometown screening of Jillian Acreman’s award-winning feature length debut, Queen of the Andes, happens Friday. 7:30 p.m.
Chats et châssis, An Introduction & Confluences open at Gallery 78. Opening are three exhibitions of highly anticipated works. In Chats et châssis, Raymond Martin delights with a new series of works of curious cats sitting at our dinner tables, alongside brilliant re-visitations of past series such as the that of the Kangiqsujuaq landscape. In An Introduction, Stephen Hutchings grounds his work of charcoal drawings and oil on wood panels in Pictorialist photographs from the turn of the 20th century, putting original photographic images in a contemporary context and examining the shifting definitions of beauty. Céline Genest’s series of paintings and diptychs, Confluences, explores the figure and nature and the human presence within landscapes, weaving together opposing feelings in the process.
The works will be available online starting November 2. For the opening on Friday, Nov. 5, tickets/reservations are not needed, but masks, contact information, proof of vaccination, and ID are required for entry.
SilverFish Photography Collective’s AFTERIMAGE opens at UNB Art Centre. AFTERIMAGE is a testament to the longevity of this photographic collective and a celebration of the art of photography. This exhibition features photography, collage, mixed media and installation to explore perceptual reality and optical phenomenon. It opens at 5 p.m. on November 5 and runs through December 16 at UNB Art Centre. The galleries are open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and during special events. Admission is free to members of the public; however, proof of vaccination and masks are required.
My Black Ram + Blaire Nicolle at The Cap. My Black Ram resurface for their first performance in some time, joined by emerging Fredericton singer-songwriter Blaire Nicolle. 9 p.m.

Hum & Hollow + Womb to Tomb at Grimross Brewing Co. A duo of duos in the taproom: Hum & Hollow is Brooke Burns and Alex Cook of Fredericton. Alex plays guitar while Brooke adds her whimsical vocals to create a sound that will take you away to another place. Womb to Tomb is a vibrant and engaging Folk/Alt band, inspired by the natural world and East Coast culture. The crisp bass and ambient electric guitar weave an intricate web around the haunting harmonies and acoustic strings. 8 p.m.
New Brunswick Short Film Showcase at the Playhouse. 10 NB short films will be screened at the Playhouse as part of the 21st annual Silver Wave Film Festival. 7 p.m.
Pulsart Trio at The Cap. Pulsart Trio is a Funk jazz band based in Quebec city known for their unusual instruments and space jazz stylings. Featuring Vibraphone, Organ and Drums the trio is bound to leave you surprised by their brand of funk infused jazz tunes! 9:30 p.m.
Ray Legere and Alan Jeffries at the Tipsy Muse Café. Fiddler and mandolin player Ray Legere has played alongside David Grisman, Sam Bush, Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas and Doc Watson, to name only a few. Alan Jeffries’ music is the product of many influences but rooted deeply in bluegrass. A powerful singer and musician, he is well known to music fans as a mainstay in the David Myles band, a producer with local artists (Kill Chicago, The Montgomery Street Band) and for his performances with Legere. A big night of roots music awaits. 7 p.m.

Jordan Trethewey Book Launch at the Tipsy Muse Café. Friends, family and local writers will share Jordan’s words by reading selections from the new book, and copies will be available for purchase. Come out to celebrate this latest work from one of Fredericton’s most talented writers. 2:30 p.m.
