Theatre New Brunswick is seeking scripts to workshop for its Fall Festival of New Plays, taking place September 27 – October 3, 2021.
Theatre New Brunswick’s Fall Festival of New Plays will return this fall.
The Fall Festival of New Plays supports playwrights in their creation process by providing dramaturgy, a director and cast to read their work and an honourarium.
“This year’s festival will be significantly smaller than last, but it is happening,” said Natasha MacLellan, TNB’s artistic director. “If you are a New Brunswick born or based playwright, and you have a full-length script that is ready for a workshop, we’d like to hear from you.
“We’d prefer to work on ideas and scripts that are already in development, as opposed to ideas that are very new,” added MacLellan. “The projects and the creators should be ready for outside input, criticism and collaboration.”
Created in response to COVID-19 restrictions that were in place last year, the Festival has already had a significant impact on New Brunswick playwrights and their work. Last year’s event contributed to the development of 12 new plays by New Brunswick-based writers and drew together a national cast of actors, directors and dramaturges to see each play performed as a live-streamed reading. This year’s event will focus on developing five new plays with live-streamed and in-person readings planned.
All work submitted will be reviewed by a selection committee made up of Jena McLean (Playwright, TNB Theatre School’s Playwriting Instructor), Lara Lewis (Actor, Dramaturge), and TNB’s Artistic Director Natasha MacLellan.
Send applications to submissions@tnb.nb.ca with subject line TNB Fall Festival Submission.
Applications should include a cover letter that details the development history of your play, a clear idea of what you hope to achieve during the process, what you think you need (if it is above and beyond the support we outlined above) and a copy of your script.
DEADLINE TO APPLY: August 23.
