Red Panda Productions have announced plans for three upcoming shows planned for June and July in Fredericton.
Live theatre is a big part of summer in Fredericton. From the Calithumpians’ daytime performances and evening ghost walks to Bard in the Barracks’ immersive Shakespeare productions and the wealth of emerging talent showcased through the NotaBle Acts Summer Theatre Festival, the city’s summer season has long been one rich in stories and entertainment. And now, with the introduction of three upcoming shows from Red Panda Productions, this summer’s lineup stands to be one of the biggest yet.
Red Panda will make its Fredericton introduction this summer with three productions set to take place between June and early August.
“I think the thing that is the most exciting for me is also the scariest thing, being able to have so much freedom to create theatre,” said Red Panda Artistic Director Nikki Vigneault. “We have a great lineup of shows and I want to make sure I do them justice for the actors and playwrights and for the community members who are going to come see them.”
So far, Red Panda have announced two of the three shows they plan to produce. Those are An Ocean of Evergreens Jena McLean (June 17-20) and Alan Jay Lerner’s 1960 musical, Camelot (July 22-25). A third production, to be produced in cooperation with Spearhead Theatre is expected to be announced shortly.
Looking ahead to the summer season, Vigneault is still a little unsure of how outdoor theatre will play out as many restrictions will most likely still be in place when the company’s first show opens in June.
“There are so many things that are different now and specifically with shows in the summertime, we have no idea where we will be with public gatherings,” she said. “Things are changing every day; we have no idea where we will be in three or four months. Everyone is supposed to be getting vaccinated in the next few months, so it’s all just been about making plans for every situation possible.”
