Live music, drag, comedy and the first few holiday shopping events of the season are all coming up this week.

Wednesday 

The Fiddlehead: 75th Anniversary Poetry & Prose Readings. The Fiddlehead: Atlantic Canada’s International Literary Journal is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Over the final months of 2020, they are hosting a series of free online readings featuring the writers whose work appears in the 75th anniversary issue.

This week: Clarisse Baleja Saidi, Brandi Bird, Mackenzie Ground, Jonina Kirton, Sofia Mostaghimi, Ingrid Ruthig, Jean Van Loon, plus a Q&A with the authors. 7 p.m. Learn more.

Open Mic with Richie Young at The Cap. Bring a song. Share a song. Singalong. 8 p.m. Learn more

MusicUNB Live presents Beethoven’s 250th online via YouTube. Come celebrate the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven! This special concert will include solo piano works performed by pianist Peter Allen encompassing the varying styles and periods from the master’s life. An early piano trio with Richard Hornsby (clarinet) and Paul Pulford (cello) will be programmed as well. Tickets are available online

 Karaoke at Klub Khrome. Jeff Brewer hosts an evening of karaoke. 9:30 – 2 a.m.

Thursday 

Tristan Horncastle at Dolan’s Pub. Award-winning New Brunswick country musician Tristan Horncastle plays a rare pub performance this week at Dolan’s. 7:30 p.m.

Rock’N’ Roll Bingo at The Cap. Bingo cards are by-donation in support of #CAPcares 7-10 p.m. Tons of prizes. Learn more

Christmas Night Market at Picaroons Roundhouse. A festive night of drinks, food and shopping. Local artists and creators will be set up at Picaroons Brewery, Thursday November 26th and December 3rd, 4 pm-9 pm. There will be a variety of gifts and items for all ages. We are so excited to host this amazing night of shopping. Remember to be safe and bring a mask.

Northeastern Chorus CD Release Concert at The Playhouse. Northeastern Chorus is not a Sleepy Driver album. It’s a collaboration of like-minded musical spirits celebrating community and creativity. The album features songs by Sleepy Driver members Peter Hicks and John Heinstein, Juanita Bourque (Sissy & the Hobos, The Chanterelles) and Clinton Charlton (Bonnett House, Jessica Rhaye & the Ramshackle Parade). 

The show will feature performances by some of Fredericton’s finest: Peter Hicks, Juanita Bourque, John Heinstein, Barry Hughes, Shane Guitar, Jamie Guitar, Kelly Waterhouse, Jonnie Price, Ross Beckett, Mike Hatheway, Chris Browne, Erin Keith, Ethan Young-Lai, Jason Sonier, Sylvia Reentovich, Justine Everett, Aidan Hicks, The Chanterelles and Sleepy Driver. 7:30 p.m. Learn more

Honey Gut at The Muse. Since 2014, Honey Gut has been the ever evolving brain child of Joshua Sangster and Ollie LeBlanc. While you can find them in a coarser format when playing as a trio with drummer Kris Campbell, Honey Gut returns to their roots and digs deep into their catalogue at the Tipsy Muse. 7 p.m. Learn more

“New To You” & Food Sale at Wilmot United Church. The annual UCW “New To You” & Food Sale takes place this week. Lots of gift ideas! Social distancing and masks required.Outreach’s Fair Trade chocolate and coffee will be available at the sale. 9 – 6 p.m.

Mike Bravener Vinyl Release at Picaroons Roundhouse. Bravener’s 2020 collection of traditional New Brunswick folk songs will be rolled out on good old 12” vinyl. Stop by the Roundhouse to grab a copy and hear a tune. 4-9 p.m.

Saturday 

Kylie Fox at The Muse. Saint John’s Kylie Fox brings her new album Green to the Muse for an intimate show. Not to be missed. 7 p.m.Learn more

Crafted by Picaroons (NB Drinks Market). Picaroons brings you the largest selection of New Brunswick craft beer, spirits, wine, and cider at The Picaroons Roundhouse every Sunday from November 15 until December 20. 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Learn more

Ongoing: 

On Display at Gallery 78. Gallery 78 presents four new exhibitions on display until Saturday, November 28. In Wild and Domestic, Michael McEwing and Anna Syperek join forces and present illuminating and vibrant Atlantic Canadian landscapes and still lifes throughout each season of the year. Flat-Moon Conspiracy: Crystal-Power Pottery by the Clarks is an exciting new body of ceramics which explores colour, texture, and the magic of crystalline glaze. In the upstairs gallery, Stephen May presents The Tea Series, an intimate, laid-back glimpse into his surroundings, wherein he captures what he sees as he sits down for tea. Jared Betts debuts his highly charged emotional abstract expressionist works in Colorlust with brand new works and updated colour palette.

On Display at Gallery on Queen. Gallery On Queen is pleased to present an exhibition of works by Janice Wright Cheney and Maja Padrov. Janice Wright Cheney’s textile-based sculptures and installations explore the human-nature relationship. They consider the fragility of the present state, examine the loss of wilderness, and imagine ecological life in the future. Her works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Maja Padrov moved to New Brunswick in 1997 from Novi Sad, Serbia, and graduated from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design with a diploma in Studio Ceramics. She has been working with clay professionally for the last 20 years as a studio artist, and has worked as a part time instructor at NBCCD. 

Fredericton Fibre Arts Network presents Craft 2020 at UNB Art Centre. Craft 2020: Reflections features work juried by FAN members and presents 40 works by 21 fibre artists. Works included employ a unique range of fibres from wool, silk, cotton and even cassette tape! A variety of techniques are presented in both two and three-dimensional design including quilting, rug hooking, felting, thread painting, weaving, basketry, millinery as well as other wearable and usable art forms. On display until Dec. 13. 

5th Annual Capital Art Sale: $500 or Less! The 5th Annual Capital Art Sale is pleased to offer the Fredericton area high quality art at unprecedented value – just in time for Christmas shopping! We will be presenting a variety of items created by local artists and craftsman including paintings, photography, mixed media, illustrations, pottery, jewellery, prints, and so much more. This show is completely unique as we will be presenting all work mixed together on the walls of our venue, floor to ceiling, gallery style. Works will be sold directly off the walls and updated throughout the event. Masks will be required and social distancing measures will be in place. We have extended our sale days to better accommodate social distancing, and will also be doing daily updates for online sales if you wish to shop from home. 700 Macleod Ave.
