Les Hay Babies and Jamie Comeau & the Crooked Teeth emerged as the biggest winners of the evening, picking up three awards.
Music•Musique NB celebrated the 11th edition of the Prix MNB Awards, during a live stream show recorded at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre. The event kicks off Festival (506), which takes place online through October 25. All in all, some 19 awards were handed out to New Brunswick artists and music industry professionals.
Les Hay Babies and Jamie Comeau & the Crooked Teeth emerged as the biggest winners of the evening, picking up three statuettes each, including Enregistrement de l’année and Recording of the Year, respectively. Saint John singer songwriter Kylie Fox took home Breakthrough Artist of the Year // Révélation de l’année, while Fredericton group Marian, fronted by Mi’kmaw artist Dylan Ward, came away with Indigenous Artist of the Year // Artiste autochtone de l’année // Elnoeg notji pipogotitjg genatagen // Skicinowək noci-amalhəcəssawet likətənək. Notable among the other recipients were Kill Chicago and Menoncle Jason, who were handed SOCAN Song of the Year and Chanson SOCAN de l’annéerespectively.
“I want to congratulate all of the nominees tonight, who represent just a fraction of the talent and creativity held within this province,” says Penelope Stevens, MNB President. “We want to acknowledge that there are hundreds of talented individuals not represented tonight and they, especially our BIPOC artists, really deserve our respect, recognition and support for their hard work. Thank you for making art in this province!”
Festival (506) continues through October 25, showcasing twenty-four New Brunswick artists. Tickets are available through Side Door.
