This weekend’s lineup includes a play reading, a poetry event, a book launch, new works at the BAG plus tons of music including sets by FM Berlin, Menoncle Jason and The Irish Rovers.
Friday
The Irish Rovers’ Wasn’t That a Party! at The Playhouse. Over the last 55 years, Ireland has felt the impact of The Irish Rovers long career of bringing Ireland and Irish music to the rest of the world. Guaranteed to be a toe-tapping, hand-clapping, sing-along night of good cheer you are not going to want to miss this momentous event! 7:30 p.m.
The Tipsy Muse Café presents Michelle Morrison. Michelle Morrison is a maritime soul-folk musician, drawing inspiration from all walks of life. Michelle’s music incorporates influences from many genres including traditional folk, jazz, rock & roll, blues and bluegrass. Even though she is young she has been performing for years, both in bands and as a solo musician. 7 p.m.
Retro Night at The Phoenix. Music of the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s. Retro video game setup! Drink specials. 11 p.m.
It’s Going Down for Real ft. DJ Neuroseance at The Capital Complex. It’s going to be a Glam, Trap, Funk, Punk, Goth, Oldschool Rap, Hip Hop, Disco party. 10 p.m.
5 à 7 with Menoncle Jason at Grimross Brewing Co. Menoncle Jason, originally from Memramcook, but living in Moncton, is a multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer constantly in a creative mode. With his baritone voice, he finds his inspiration in the reality of country life. His songs are influenced by the musical sounds of southeastern New Brunswick. 5 p.m.
Artists/Parents Group at the NB Library of Craft & Design. Join a group of artists who also happen to be parents and talk about it. This is the inaugural meeting so we’ll take some time to discuss what kind of shape this group will take. There will be coffee, tea, and snacks. 2-3 p.m.
Saturday
Spearhead Theatre to Launch and Play Reading at Odell Park Lodge. After a successful inaugural season featuring John Pielmeier’s Agnes of God, a karaoke fundraiser, and the 1st Annual SHT Show, Spearhead Theatre is excited to announce their upcoming 2020 season at the launch party. The 2020 launch party will feature a reading of Greg Everett’s OXBOW, the third instalment in the BVRNTLAND series. Guests can enjoy the night’s festivities with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages, courtesy of Picaroons Brewing Company and York County Cider. All beverages are included in the ticket price, and are available while supplies last. 6-8:30 p.m.
O’Me Nerves Comedy Presents: Cards Against Humanity Showdown at Grimross Brewing Co. You’ve played the game…now come see how comedians play it! Join us as we test the boundaries of humanity with a night of comedy, laughter, and some great craft beer. This is a 100% fundraiser for mental health. Your ticket price stays in Fredericton to help provide free mental health programs to those in need who can otherwise not access services. 7 p.m.
FM Berlin + Matt Steele + Keegan Dobbelsteyn at The Capital. FM Berlin and Matt Steele and The Corvette Sunset’s Winter Marches On Tour arrives at The Capital on February 29th. Joining us is special guest Keegan Dobbelsteyn. This February, beat the cold with some hot pop rock and roll! 8 p.m.

The Tipsy Muse Talent Show. An exciting night of special musical performances, unexpected surprises, songs by students, and fun. Admission is by donation and proceeds will go towards funding music programs in our local schools. 7 p.m.
Celebrating Ned Bear at Gallery on Queen. Ned Bear was an exceptional artist and we want to honour his legacy with an upcoming show that celebrates his life and his work. His works were truly unique and this will be an opportunity to recognize an important artist from our community.
Novichok + SpineSplitter + Mangler at The Maniac Mansion. Halifax heavy metal heavyweights Novichok are coming to the Manic Mansion feb 29th with death bringers Spinesplitter and the return of sussex doom platoon Mangler! Doors at 9. $10.
Fortune of Wolves Book Launch at Westminster Books. Come celebrate the launch of the published play Fortune of Wolves by Ryan Griffith. Fortune of Wolves was first produced by Theatre New Brunswick in Fredericton in 2017. It’s an exciting piece of work that had actors rolling dice every night to determine the direction of the play, meaning no two nights were the same. Now fans can read the entire fascinating story. 1-2:30 p.m.
Exhibition Openings at Beaverbrook Art Gallery. Two new exhibits open this week at the BAG. Enjoy the exhibits: Emily Carr: Fresh Seeing – French Modernism and the West Coast and Munnings – The War Years. 4-6 p.m.
Sunday
In the Footsteps of Emily Carr: An illustrated talk at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. To prepare for the exhibition Emily Carr – Fresh Seeing, Kathryn Bridge travelled to France in 2018. Because many of Carr’s French paintings are not identified by place, Bridge’s quest was to find specific locations for the landscapes and street scenes painted in Crecy-en-Brie in 1910 and in Brittany in 1911. Through detective work, archival research and a lot of walking and exploration she was able to find several of the spots where Carr painted and accurately identify the towns and vistas depicted. This work has enabled a more accurate chronology and mapping of Carr’s travels. Photographs taken reveal the scenes today and give us an opportunity to vicariously see France through Carr’s eyes. 3-4 p.m.
odd sundays at Tipsy Muse presents Jennifer Houle & Ross Leckie. Jennifer Houle’s work has appeared in numerous literary magazines over the past 15 years. Her first book, The Back Channels, was published by Signature Editions in 2016. It won the J.M. Abraham East Coast Literary Award for best book of poetry and was shortlisted for the Gerald Lampert first-book award. Her second book, Virga, was released in 2019. She lives in Hanwell with her family. Ross Leckie’s newest publication is The Critique of Pure Reason, a chapbook from Frog Hollow Press. He has published three books of poetry, A Slow Light with the Signal Editions series of the Véhicule Press; The Authority of Roses with Brick Books and Gravity’s Plumb Line with Gaspereau Press. He is lead editor of the editorial board for Icehouse Poetry, an imprint of Goose Lane, and Associate Editor of The Fiddlehead. 2 p.m.
