Theatre St. Thomas welcomes returning director Ilkay Silk for its second production of the season. As You Like It runs January 29 – February 1.

Theatre St. Thomas brings one of Shakespeare’s best known plays to the stage this week at the Black Box Theatre.

“Theatre St. Thomas is presenting As You Like It on the Black Box stage, a classic Shakespearean romp of inheritance, love and cross dressing,” said TST’s Lisa Anne Ross. “In addition to a brilliant cast and beautiful set and lighting design by Chris Saad, TST is overjoyed to welcome the incredible Ilkay Silk back as the Director of the production.  Ilkay founded Theatre St. Thomas and helmed St. Thomas University’s student theatre company for over 35 years, mentoring and fostering artistic talent and creating great works of art along the way.”

Under Silk’s direction, the cast and crew have been rehearsing the play for weeks in preparation for this week’s run.

“For the students of STU, the opportunity to work with Ms. Silk has meant an artistic process where they are fully guided and supported,” said Ross. “Her main focus is always on creating a positive environment that fosters growth, development and discovery.  Having her back on campus is always a joyful experience for everyone involved.”

Silk, who retired in 2014, has been a champion of New Brunswick theatre for more than 40 years. In 2016 she was awarded the Order of Canada in recognition of her contributions to arts and culture in the province.

“I have enjoyed being back in the Black Box Theatre working with TST and this wonderful group of students,” said Silk.

As You Like It runs until Saturday with performances nightly at 7:30 p.m. plus a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m.
