Bellwether will host a Halloween themed pop-up storytelling event this Wednesday.

Greg Everett is making things happen. In a relatively short period of time, the Fredericton area playwright has become a driving force in the city’s theatre community. His work has been featured as part of the past two NotaBle Acts Theatre Festivals, he runs a writer’s group at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre and this week, he’s curated an afternoon pop-up storytelling event he’s calling, Jumpscare.
This free event will take place at Bellwether (384 Queen Street) and feature stories from a number of city writers including Anthony Bryan, Jean-Michel Cliche, Dean Farrell, Jenn Flewelling, Travis Flynn, Rebecca Salazar Leon, and Everett himself.
“Jean-Michel is going to talk about the house his family lived in which was built on top of the hanging grounds and Travis is going to talk about his experiences as a paranormal investigator,” said Everett. “Rebecca is going to share her poetry and I’m going to tell the story of the Dungarvon Whooper. So a real mixed bag of stuff.”
Everett hopes to see the idea develop into a regular storytelling series produced in partnership with the local business community.
“Ideally this will be the first in a series of events in the same format,” he said. “My goal is to create new spaces for performance by offering something new to local business. Give me a space to make something happen in, and I’ll bring people in. I get a chance to bring art and performance to the public, and they get an increase in foot traffic during regular business hours.”
