This weekend’s roundup is packed full of events under the Living Roots Music Festival banner, plus events at Gallery 78 and the CSAC.
Friday
Reading of Greg Everett’s New Site-Specific Script at Charlotte Street Arts Centre. Written in Marble, Buried in Earth: The Spirit of a Place is the culmination of six months of research and writing about Fredericton’s Old Burial Ground, a project made possible through a Creation Grant from ArtsNB. Admission is free and open to all; accompanying the reading will be photographs of the site, and commentary to expand on some of the intention behind the play. 7 p.m.
Living Roots Music Festival at The Capital Complex. Enjoy performances by Jessica Pearson and the East Wind, Skinny Leigh, Bule, Pony Rouge, Joe Bass, Greg MacPherson, The Motorleague, Neil Morash, Willy B, Dumpster Cub and Fractal Code. 8 p.m. $15.
Living Roots Music Festival at The Tipsy Muse Café. Enjoy performances by Chris Hawkins and Rory Taillon. 7 p.m. $10 or $20 with a Muse Pass.
Living Roots Music Festival at Grimross Brewery. A Friday night headline festival performance featuring Brown E, Brooklyn Doran and Del Barber. 7:30 p.m. $15 advance. $20 at the door.
Saturday
Living Roots Music Festival at The Capital Complex. Enjoy evening performances by My Father’s Son, Rick Sparkes and The Enablers, Wicked Vices, Gutter Demons, Rory Taillon, Uholy FREQS and Morohubu. 8 p.m. $15. PLUS: an afternoon open mic with host Mark Currie at 2 p.m.
Living Roots Music Festival at The Tipsy Muse Café. Enjoy performances by Black Suit Devil, Kylie Fox and Tom Savage. 2 p.m. $10 or $20 with a Muse Pass.
Hawksley Workman at The Beaverbrook Art Gallery. Shivering Songs and Living Roots Music Festival present a performance by two-time JUNO Award winner Hawksley Workman. 8 p.m. $30.
Sunday
The Little Sprouts School Band Benefit Concert at The Playhouse. Join the school bands from Royal Road Elementary and Nashwaaksis Middle School as they raise funds for their band programs with an afternoon of great music! Special guest stars include 8Track Mind, a 9-piece pop, rock, and groove band that plays the best in 70s and 80s dance and party music, and Steve Waylon, a hard rocking star of real country music. All proceeds support the school bands. 2 p.m. $10-$25.
Howie MacDonald at The Tipsy Muse Café. Cape Breton fiddling legend, Howie MacDonald makes his Muse debut. 2 p.m. $15.
Sonatas Concert at Gallery 78. The Saint John Early Music Festival and Gallery 78 are delighted to present Tim Blackmore, square piano and Danielle Sametz, violin on Sunday, June 2 at 2:00 pm. The program will include Sonatas by Abel, J.C. Bach, Mozart, Haydn and Dussek. Tim Blackmore, harpsichordist and recorder player will play the square piano, an instrument which was all the rage in late 18th C. Europe. Danielle Sametz is the Principal second violinist of the New Brunswick Symphony and the Saint John String Quarter. $5-$15-$20 at the door.
