Tilly Jackson to direct Spearhead Theatre’s first production – Agnes of God – this fall at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre.

Spearhead Theatre will stage its first production this fall at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre. The company’s production of the John Peilmeier play Agnes of God will run September 4-8, 2019 and feature Spearhead Theatre’s Artistic Director Kelly McAllister as Agnes. The show will be directed by Fredericton theatre veteran Tilly Jackson.

Summoned to a convent, court-appointed psychiatrist, Dr. Martha Livingstone, is tasked with assessing the sanity of a novice accused of murdering her newborn baby. Miriam Ruth, the Mother Superior, is determined to keep young Agnes from the doctor, further arousing Livingstone’s suspicions. Who killed the infant and who fathered the innocent child? Livingstone’s questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love, leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.

“Agnes of God is a poignant piece with three powerful, challenging, and dynamic roles for women,” said McAllister. “Part of Spearhead Theatre’s mandate is to produce shows that also showcase women in influential and impactful roles. After reading the script, it was immediately decided that we had to produce Agnes of God and provide this opportunity for female creatives.”

Spearhead Theatre is one of the latest additions to the city’s theatre community joining more than 15 community theatre groups producing work annually.

Pre-sale tickets for Agnes of God will be available for purchase beginning May 28.
