With Moncton native pianist Roger Lord, and guest conductor Andrew Creeggan, Symphony New Brunswick presents a family concert exploring Camille Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals. The musicians and piano soloist will provide the music for the show featuring actors and puppets from the InterAction School of Performing Arts.

When French composer Camille Saint-Saens wrote Carnival of Animals early in 1886, his intention was to provide entertainment for his friends during the time of Carnival. He had no intention of making this humorous work public, as he was concerned that it would be considered too frivolous by the public at large and that it might ruin his reputation as a serious composer. He only allowed private performances during his lifetime. After his death in 1921, the piece was finally published, and it quickly became one of Saint Saens’ most popular work. Each of the suite’s 14 movements introduces us to a different animal or group of animal, with a small number of instruments mimicking their voices or the way they move.

The work will be conducted and directed by Andrew Creeggan, original member of Canadian band Barenaked Ladies. It will feature Canadian pianist Roger Lord and actors from the InterAction school of performing arts, and will be a concert for the entire family to enjoy!

Upcoming Performances:

March 16 | Fredericton | The Playhouse | 10:30 am
March 16 | Saint John | The Imperial Theatre | 4:00 pm
March 17 | Moncton | The Capitol Theatre | 2:00 pm
