This new events partnership will host performances by Tokyo Police Club and Wintersleep this winter.
The Capital Complex and the University of New Brunswick Student Union have joined forces to bring a little live entertainment to the city this winter. In what UNBSU Campus Events are calling a ground-breaking partnership, this series will feature two concerts at the Fredericton Boyce Farmer’s Market with Wintersleep on March 28 and Tokyo Police Club on April 11.
“The UNB Student Union’s 2018-19 executive team has made it a priority to transform the student experience at UNB,” said Kristian D’Amore, UNBSU’s Director of Campus Events. “My job is to create unique and memorable experiences for UNB students all year long, with this partnership being a major part of the puzzle.”
Live music was once a major part of each school year at UNB. In the 1990s and into the 2000s, the university hosted regular concerts both outdoors and inside the SUB Ballroom. The Cellar Pub, located in the basement of the Student Union Building, was also once a major concert venue hosting performances by some of the country’s biggest names of the day, while also acting as a regular home for many local and regional acts. The Weakerthans, Constantines, Metric and The Rheostatics are just a few of the bands to perform on the tiny basement stage over the years.
Recent years have seen a major decline in live music on campus but this new partnership aims to change that.
This past fall, UNBSU Campus Events organized a sold-out Welcome Back: MUSIC FEST in the Student Union Building to kick-off the academic year. The event attracted more than 750 UNB and STU students for performances by Kardinal Offishall and Alx Veliz.
“We are excited about the talent that will be coming in,” said Zach Atkinson, General Manager at The Capital Complex. “These events are about bringing the entire Fredericton community together; we are excited to deliver them in partnership with UNBSU Campus Events.”
The concerts will be 19+ and open to the public, with student tickets being half-priced. Both Atkinson and D’Amore promised that the events will be more than just music, re-emphasizing the ambiance and community feel offered by one of Fredericton’s most unique venues.

Wintersleep have just announced their upcoming album In The Land Of, which will be released March 29 via Dine Alone Records. This will be the band’s seventh full-length release and their follow-up to 2016’s The Great Detachment.
Alt-rock quartet Tokyo Police Club are going for a full reboot on their semi-self-titled fourth album TPC, released October 5, 2018 via Dine Alone Records.
The album brings a new perspective and revitalized sound as the indie darlings celebrate the tenth anniversary of their breakthrough debut Elephant Shell and return from a four year absence since their last studio album, 2014’s Forcefield. The gap tested the band both collectively and individually but has also wrought a fresh vibrancy to their material.
