Monday
Monday Night Film Series screens Lean On Pete. Charley, a teen living with his single father, finds work caring for an aging racehorse named Lean On Pete. When he learns Pete is bound for slaughter, the two embark on an odyssey across the new American frontier in search of a place to call home. Features Steve Buscemi and Chloë Sevigny. The Barra MacNeils at the Fredericton Playhouse. For nearly three decades, the Cape Breton-based family group the Barra MacNeils have been thrilling audiences of all ages, both near and far,with their sparkling repertoire, vocals, instrumental prowess and vibrant showmanship. You won’t want to miss Canada’s Celtic Ambassadors. 7:30 p.m. | $42.50
Castle, Green Lung Grinders and A Lucid Nightmare at The Capital. California’s Castle are returning to Fredericton as part of their Deal Thy Fate tour. Local acts Green Lung Grinders and A Lucid Nightmare will be kicking things off starting at 9 p.m. | $8
Elm City Echoes holding Open Rehearsals. Membership is open to all women from the young (age 15) to the young at heart. Just bring your voices and enthusiasm for singing and learning. Previous musical experience and the ability to read music are not required. The Elm City Echoes meet every Monday evening at Cathedral Memorial Hall, 168 Church Street.
Players & Pints Episode 3. Catch the next instalment in Hot Garbage Comedy Collective’s ongoing series, Players & Pints, a liveplay Dungeons and Dragons comedy show. These have been getting packed houses so if you plan to attend, get there early to secure your seat. The show happens at Unplugged – A Board Games Cafe, 418 Queen Street. 7:30 p.m. $7.

Music Runs Through It presents Women of Influence in Music. This is sure to be a great show featuring music from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Bonnie Riatt, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, and others; played by members of Sugarbomb, Mad Mary, Sissy & the Hobos, and more! Wednesday
Dear Rouge & Modern Space with Natalie Lynn at The Capital. Vancouver’s Juno Award winning Dear Rouge are in town on Wednesday night. Catch them in performance with Modern Space (Newmarket, ON) and Halifax’s Natalie Lynn. 9 p.m. | $18
The Ultimate Neil Diamond Experience at the Fredericton Playhouse. Las Vegas Headliner Jay White is one of the world’s most convincing re-creations of Neil Diamond. Jay White has been paying homage to Neil Diamond for over 25 years. Jay’s every movement, sound, and expression is a tribute to the passion and power of the real Diamond, giving new lustre to the life of the man and his music. 7:30 p.m. | $41 and up.
Big Thinkers Tertulias: Literary, Artistic & Social Gatherings at Wilser’s Room. A tertulia is a literary and artistic social gathering where participants talk about ideas. This series will create a social space for excellent lectures—mixed with music, poetry, readings, and whatever else our speakers bring. Organizers envision a regular gathering, a salon, to talk about the big thinkers and their ideas. The tertulia aims to be one place to get inspired about new and old ideas, to listen to great speakers, and to converse. This week’s speakers: Samira Farhoud on Simone de Beauvoir. 7:30 p.m.
Thursday
Gallery on Queen presents Requiem by Carol Collicutt. Requiem is a collection of large-format art works consisting of mixed media including photographic imagery. Carol has been a practicing professional artist in New Brunswick for over 30 years. She holds two Bachelor’s degrees, in English Literature and in Education, and a diploma from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She is currently the Chair of ARTSNB. Opening reception 5:30 p.m.
Tomáš Kubínek: Certified Lunatic & Master of the Impossible at the Fredericton Playhouse. The one and only Tomáš Kubínek is a comic genius, virtuoso vaudevillian and all-around charmer who provides an utterly joyous experience you’ll remember for a lifetime. With appearances in over 30 countries and a professional career spanning three decades, Kubínek has won the hearts of thousands in theatres, opera houses, television specials, on Broadway, and at international festivals. Transcending categorization, his work leaves audiences clutching their sides with laughter. Brookside Mall + Jane Blanchard + Subtle at The Capital. Three of the region’s finest take the Capital stage for an evening of music on Thursday Oct. 4. Jane Blanchard is currently back in Canada wrapping up a tour of Ontario and Quebec. She’ll join with Brookside Mall and Saint John’s emo revivalists Subtle. A great lineup for sure. Birdie Whyte and Her One-Night Band at Grimross Brewery. As part of her unique approach to touring, Ontario folk musician Birdie Whyte is pairing up with local bands to share a one-of-a-kind evening of music. Catch this crafty, fun performance when she takes the stage backed by Fredericton’s The Falling Leaves. 7 p.m. | $10
Friday
Brett Kissel: We Were That Song at the Fredericton Playhouse. Following his sold-out show at the Playhouse in 2017, Canadian country superstar Brett Kissel returns, performing music from his latest album, We Were That Song. The young Alberta-based singer-songwriter’s sound continues to evolve, and his album boasts a new sense of upbeat energy and excitement. Kissel is the only Canadian to ever tour with Garth Brooks, and considers the country legend to be a mentor and a major influence on his music. 7:30 p.m. | $48 and up.
The Town Heroes + David in the Dark + Soap Opera at The Capital. The Town Heroes have released their fourth full-length album, Everything (will be fine when we get to where we think we’re going). This is the first album since the band expanded from a duo to include two additional members. Doors at 9. Show at 10.
York Sunbury Historical Society & Fredericton Region Museum Art & Craft Exhibition. Members, friends, and the public are invited to this opening reception. All members of the Historical Society were invited to submit two to four works for display in the Gallery until October 27. 5 p.m.
Jamie Comeau & Crooked Teeth + Womb to Tomb at Grimross Brewery. Jamie Comeau & Crooked Teeth won the 2017 Stingray Music Rising Star award at last year’s Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival and have been going hard ever since. They’re joined by Saint John ambient folk outfit Womb to Tomb. Should be a great night. 8 p.m. | $10
Saturday
B.A. Johnston + Young Satan in Love + Helium Submarine at The Capital. BA is back two weeks after he left with a solid class of local entertainment. Young Satan in Love and Helium Submarine. “Good times” await. 10 p.m.
Mike Aube + Kylie Fox + Matt Comeau at Grimross Brewery. Three New Brunswick songwriters come together for an evening songs, stories and laughter. 8 p.m.
