‘Hegemony’, the group’s first release of 2018, will be available August 11 as a limited edition cassette.

Over the past year, members the Saint John-based experimental music ensemble USSE have dialed back their collective schedules to reimagine the group and its methods of creation and performance. This refinement period has resulted in a collection of new music and the band will be breaking their self-imposed silence on August 11 with the release of the limited edition cassette single, Hegemony b/w The Obfuscator.
Hegemony was recorded in the band’s studio space and was mastered at Monopolized Studio by Corey Bonnevie. The track features the work of Jud Crandall, Emily Saab and Stephanie Tierney aka Sister Skull and is structured around components of dub, found sound and object, repeated patterns and sonic sheeting, to construct a kind of ‘electroacoustic post-punk’.
To celebrate the release, Usse will perform on Saturday, August 11 at the Saint John Tool Library as part of Quality Block Party, performing alongside Sister Skull, Ophelya and Somewhere Soon.
Usse will release their debut album Flowers For S later in 2018.
