All-ages shows of the edgy rock persuasion are as rare as hen’s teeth these days. But this week, thanks to the good folks at The Cap, younger audiences will have a chance to rock out with Motherhood. And that’s just the first event on this week’s list!
Motherhood – Double Header: all ages & 19+ | March 8 | The Cap | View Event
Motherhood launch their first tour of the year with a pair of hometown shows at The Cap on March 8. There will be an all-ages show at 6:30 p.m. and a 19+ show later in the evening. Come out to support these local sonic explorers as they break in a new drummer (for this tour) and release a ton of new merch to help fund their travels. Also, it’s Motherhood. Lil Omar joins for the evening set. Good times guaranteed. Also, watch for a new Motherhood single arriving this week. What is this? Christmas?
Hip Hop Open Mic | March 9 | The CAP | View Event
Open mic events are a live music staple. Practically every bar or brewery or regular performance stage has one. Often seen as a training ground for new and emerging talent, the majority of these events focus on singer songwriters of the guitar toting type. But here, we get something completely different. Launched in the fall of 2022 by local DJ and producer FRNK (Jordan Francis McLaughlin), The Cap’s Hip Hop Open Mic is one of just a handful of regular events in Atlantic Canada catered entirely to rappers, MCs, and would-be hip hop performers. How cool is that?
Loveover + Wax Forest + Nicotine Heartthrob | March 10 | The Cap | View Event
Proto pop headbangers Loverover return to Fredericton hot on the heels of their most recent video release Go Away//Stay Away, off their 2022 EP, Worse Than Before. Get your weekend started on the right foot by spending an evening with Loveover, Wax Forest, and Moncton’s Nicotine Heartthrob. Should be a time and a half.
Daveband | March 11 | Tipsy Muse Café | View Event
Fans of Shotgun Jimmie, Apollo Ghosts, and Joel Plaskett Emergency will want to check out Daveband on stage at the Tipsy Muse this Saturday. Halifax singer songwriter David Archibald and his band are celebrating the vinyl reissue of their 2020 debut album This Was Your Dad at 28. Hear it live on one of Fredericton’s most intimate stages.
Sláinte – Celtic Soirée (II) | March 11 | Fredericton Playhouse | View Event
In 2021, Fredericton folk duo Frantically Atlantic staged a production they called, Sláinte – A Celtic Soirée, at the Fredericton Playhouse before a sold out crowd. Bringing together a wealth of folk and Celtic music makers from around the region, the show returns to the Playhouse this week just in time to set the mood for St. Patrick’s Day. Expect fiddles, bodhrans, guitars, and songs new and old.
As always, for a comprehensive look at performances happening throughout the city this week, check out the event calendar managed by our friends at Music Runs Through It.
