5 Shows to Make Your Week

Category: music 159

Here it is. Your weekly rundown of live performance picks and recommendations. Go forth and rock out.

With the warmer weather now in relatively full effect (besides the extra helping of rain we’ve been getting), enjoying live music in some way, shape or form is almost unavoidable. Between the Garrison Night Market and the ReCap Market, plus all the regular venues doing regular venue things, music is everywhere. Hooray! Here are a few suggestions if you find yourself at a loss as to where to point your feet this weekend.

Trenchlung + Heavybreather + Scorn | Thursday July 6 | Broken Record Bar & Music Room | View Event

There is no questioning Broken Record Bar & Music Room’s position as Fredericton’s new home for loud and heavy music. While the venue hosts a bit of everything (as all good venues should), bands of the metal, doom, punk, and hardcore persuasions have certainly marked this venue as a “must play” stop on their tour itineraries. The trend continues this week as Trenchlung and Heavybreather, both from Windsor, ON join with New Brunswick heavies Scorn for what is sure to be a memorable ripper this Thursday.

Scott Fowler + Karli Ellis | Friday July 7 | York County Cider | View Event

Scott Fowler (NS) and Karli Ellis (PEI) return to York County Cider this week for an evening of acoustic originals and covers. Believe it or not, the weather is actually looking good for Friday which means cider on the patio at Ed’s Garage. Stop by and enjoy some live music on Fredericton’s northside. It doesn’t happen every day.

Papal Visit + Mike Trask + Nate Murchison & The Busy Boys | Friday July 7 | The Cap | View Event

After an unfortunate cancellation earlier this year, Saint John super-duper-group Papal Visit will be back on stage at The Cap for a show with Mike Trask and Nate Murchison & The Busy Boys. An incredible lineup of highly credible musicians. You want to talk family trees? Six degrees of Mike Trask? 36 degrees of Saint John? This stellar lineup can trace direct connections to just about every influential NB band of the past 10, 15, 20 years (?). Not to be missed.

River Jam 2023 | Friday July 7 | Delta Hotel | View Event

River Jam is back. What is River Jam? River Jam is an annual event (postponed for a few years due to you-know-what) that takes a typically diverse festival lineup and stuffs it into a full evening of music at the Delta Hotel. Multiple stages. Multiple genres. Multitudes of fun. And if that wasn’t enough, proceeds from the festival support music in school programs. That’s right. The River Jam of today feeds the River Jam of tomorrow. How ‘bout that?! In the words of Keith Hallett, ‘mon out!

Dad Patrol Album Launch with Merci Buckets + Sleepy Kicks | July 8 | The Cap | View Event

If you haven’t heard Dad Patrol’s new album, Pleaser, go do that right now. We’ll wait……

What do you think? Pretty good huh? This Saturday the band will celebrate the album’s release with a show at The Cap. Merci Buckets and Sleepy Kicks are also on the bill. ROCK. AND. ROLL from the city’s finest. Go get your face melted and your mind blown.
